Hi, I’m Tressa.
I am the owner of By You Maternal Support Services. I am a certified Maternal Support Practitioner in fertility, birth, postpartum support and birth education with a focus in mental, emotional and physical birth support. I have an undergraduate degree in Psychology and am a certified Emergency Medical Technician.
The idea of becoming a doula began when I was pregnant for my first child. A more natural birth was my preference, but when I set out to build my team in my home town I was quickly discouraged. Resources were scarce and support was few and far between. Feeling defeated already in my first trimester, I set out to surround myself with like minded women. It was at a birth conference in Houston, Texas that a dear midwife planted the idea to create the resources I so desperately longed for. I was then put on a path to meet a whole handful of women who were my biggest influencers and supporters. I would not be the mother I am today if it weren’t for these women.
When I attended my first childbirth education, my teacher was a doula. I learned what a doula was and knew that it was exactly what my community needed. Not only did I want to bring awareness to what a doula is, but I wanted to normalize the thought of having one.
I truly believe that a perfect birth begins with an empowered birther.
My mission is to fill you with education about the journey you are about to embark. Education classes will help you better understand what is to come and able you to ask effective questions. Preparation for this life changing event is key. As your doula I will guide you down a check list of questions and decisions as well as prepare you and your partner for what to expect in labor. My clients will feel supported mentally, emotionally, and even physically. My services are non-bias and my information is with out unwanted opinions and advice. What I do include is a heaping cup of love and understanding poured unto you, the new parents. You will get a 24/7 listening ear for nine months and beyond and a personal researcher for every crossroad you happen upon. Your partner will receive guided support in the laboring space, and a teammate for unexpected breaks they may need. Clients are just the beginning but I hope that our journey ends in friendship. I am honored to be allowed into your sacred space and will hold that brave space with respect and love.
